Faenza

Known throughout the world for its ceramics Faenza has ancient origins dating back to Athenian people that after the founding of the settlement of Ravenna pushed inland and founded this settlement that thanks to the fortunate position became in a short time an important commercial center.
The birth of it’s ceramics should be like for any other civilization the need to contain liquids, so using the rich soil of red clay from the bed of the river Lamone began creating ceramic containers that went into perfecting over the years inventing new decorative motifs with the Hispanic-Moorish and oriental influences which were then enriched by the use of tin in the glaze composition. Faenza is still home today in the former convent of San Maglorio the rich international Museum of Ceramics.
